ostelment (1321)

[ gdw]

[ FEW: 4,493b hospitalis; Gdf: 4,504a hostelement; GdfC: ; TL: 6,1371 ostelement; DEAF:  ostal (ostelement); DMF: ; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: ]
hostellement,  hostelment

The word, not listed in DMF, is somewhat problematic because of its formal similarity to ustilement. Ultimately, two of the three attestations (Actes privés and Reg Chich) may also be interpreted as ‘equipment, furnishings’, and, if so, belong to ustilement. However, the term ostelement, as belonging to the oste1 word family, is genuine too, even if only on the strength of the Gower citation.
