rachier (1171-74)

raker
FEW:  rakk- 10,35a Gdf:  crachier (raquer) 9,238a GdfC: TL: rachier 2 8,134 DEAF: DMF:  racher 1  TLF: OED:  reach v.2  / retch v.2  MED:  hraecen v.  DMLBS:

It is unclear whether the verb derives from a Gallo-Romance etymon (krakk-, cf. FEW) or a Germanic one (a-hræcen, cf. OED reach v.2 etymology, Third Edition, 2008). In the latter case, the semantic overlap and formal similarity with cracher would be coincidental, and Godefroy’s decision to treat raquer as a variant spelling of cracher would be erroneous.
