The editor of S Jean ants suggests that the Latin term rachanellae (absent from dictionaries) is interpreted by the Anglo-Norman translator as a type of very cheap garment, but may have referred to a kind of thin blanket. Without any further indication on the word’s etymon, the precise meaning remains elusive.
