penderol (s.xiii)

pendurel;  perendurel
FEW:  pendere 8,176b Gdf: GdfC: TL: DEAF:  pendre (penderol)  DMF: TLF: OED: MED: DMLBS:

The etymology of the word is unclear, and a variant spelling like perendurel even suggests that the association with pendere may be contestable. The FEW entry for pendere records similar forms (e.g. pendourel and pandourel), albeit attested with entirely different senses (‘bout de chemise sortant par derrière du pamtalon (des enfants)’, ‘lobe de l’oreille’ and ‘loque qui pend’).
