There is only one instance, in Set Dorm ants, where the verb seems to be used transitively: ‘the transgression that Adam sinned’. Such a usage would be exceptional, even in the wider context of English, Latin and Continental French, and it might be preferable to try to read this instance as an intransitive verb as well: with trespas not functioning as the direct object of peccha but as the antecedent of a separate sub-clause: ‘because of the transgression – [the fact] that Adam sinned – He sent His son’. While more in line with the typical usage of this verb, such an interpretation is grammatically not entirely obvious either, and as a result the possibility of a transitive peccher is included here.
