noces (1121-35)

The form noesces is a cross reference to the following entry:

noces (1121-35)

noches,  noeces,  nosces,  noesces;  neces,  neoces,  nuces;
sg. noce,  noece
  FEW:  nuptiae 7,243a Gdf: GdfC:  noce 10,204c TL: noce 6,685 DEAF:  noce  DMF:  noce  TLF:  noce  OED:  noces n.  MED:  neoces n.  DMLBS:  nuptiae 1955a

As in Latin (nuptiae), the word is generally used in its plural form, but is frequently treated as a singular noun: both ‘les noces’ and ‘la noces’ are attested. The use of the pure singular form (‘la noce’) is exceptional, and is consequently listed here in second place (and, in contrast to the DMF, Gdf and TL’s treatment of it, not as the entry’s headword).
