[surnaif] (s.xiiex)

The form sunais is a cross reference to the following entry:

[surnaif] (s.xiiex)

surneis,  sunais
FEW:  nativus *7,44a Gdf:  sonays 7,473 GdfC: TL: DEAF:  naïf (*)  DMF: TLF:  -  OED: MED: DMLBS:

The etymology (and possible association with naif) remains questionable. The word may possibly be linked with Modern French sournois ('sly, devious'), which, according to the TLF, is of unclear origin, but not attested before the middle of the seventeeth century.
