seri (s.xii2/4)

[gdw]

[ FEW: 11,510b serescere; Gdf: 7,389c seri 2; GdfC: ; TL: 9,513 seri 2; DEAF:  seri; DMF:  seri 1; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: ]
seré,  serei,  serid,  serit;  serré,  serri,  serrit;  serry;
f. serie,  serrie;
pl. seriz

The Salemon 4729 attestation is problematic. The editor of the text translates a seriz as ‘quietly, stealthily’ (cf. serré1), but suggests alternative interpretations (iii 110.4729), such as el vespre a seir (cf. seir1) and el vespre aseriz (cf. aserir) – both producing tautological expressions with el vespre. Since seri is common as an adjective to refer to the weather or the night, the Salemon attestation is included here, albeit in a somewhat unusual nominal use. See also the expressions au vespre serin (sub serin) and seriement en la vespree (sub seriement1).
