The polysemy of the verb pester1 (‘to crush’, ‘to knead’ and ‘to bake’) is not found reflected in this cognate noun, which, just like its Latin etymon, combines the three actions into a single occupation. The OED’s definition of the word as ‘originally: a person who grinds corn, esp. without the use of a mill; a person who prepares corn or other grain for grinding’ (third edition, 2006) does not have any corroborative attestations in Anglo-Norman.
