povrus (s.xiii1)

povrus (s.xiii1)

poverus
FEW:  pauper *8,58a Gdf: GdfC: TL: DEAF:  povre (povros)  DMF: TLF: OED: MED: DMLBS:  pauper (pauperus) 2153c

This formation of povre1 followed by an -us suffix is rare (the DEAF documents one other use, povourous, in the early thirteenth-century Norman translation of the Rule of St.Benedict by Nicole) but may be a reflection of the medieval Latin variant pauperus instead of pauper. Alternatively, these Anglo-Norman attestation may be interpreted as deviant plural forms of povre1.
