pépol (s.xiii1)

The form piépol is a cross reference to the following entry:

pépol (s.xiii1)

pépoyl,  piépol
FEW:  *pullipes 9,529a Gdf: GdfC: TL: piepol 7,918 DEAF:  piepol  DMF:  piepol  TLF:  piepol  OED: MED: DMLBS:  pes (pes pulli) 2251c

Rather than a contracted form of pé de polein (see sub 1), this lexeme represents Latin pes pulli (lit. ‘foot of a young animal’). However, as plant-names, pépol and pé de polein are largely synonymous and reflect the same botanical ambiguity already present in Latin pes pulli.
