pilousee (s.xiii2)

The form pelusee is a cross reference to the following entry:

pilousee (s.xiii2)

pelosee,  peluscee,  pelusee;  pilosee
FEW:  pilosus *8,503a Gdf: GdfC: TL: DEAF:  pelos (pelosee)  DMF: TLF: OED: MED: DMLBS:  pilosus 2282a

The plant gets its name (a derivative of pilous) from the trichomes, i.e. hairs on its stem and leaves. It is not clear, and perhaps questionable purely on the basis of the glosses in Plant Names, whether the name was used for different kinds of ‘hairy’ plants.
