[palmee] (c.1200)

The form paumee is a cross reference to the following entry:

[palmee] (c.1200)

paumé,  paumee
FEW:  palma 1 7,509a Gdf:  paumee 6,45b GdfC: TL: paumée 1 7,498 DEAF:  paume (paumee 2)  DMF:  paumée  TLF:  paume (paumée)  OED: MED: DMLBS:  palmare 2089b

The DMLBS notes the use of the p.ppl. of palmare as sb.f. meaning ‘slap of blow given with the flat of the hand’. The sense of ‘span’ is one of the uses of palma (DMBLS 2088a). If this is their etymology, it may be that the forms in the citations under ‘span’ should be read as having unaccented final vowels.
