paume2 (1266-1300)

[ hap]

[ FEW: *7,517a palmula; Gdf: ; GdfC: ; TL: ; DEAF: ; DMF: ; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: 2090a palmula ]
pame,  pasme

The editor of Secr Waterford1 suggests this word may be related to the form pamel attested in the FEW (pamula 7,517a) meaning ‘kleine Palme, Gerste'. DuCange sub pamola notes a Romance derivation (‘Fumenti genus, hordeum, vulgo Pamoule, Provincialibus Paumoulle. Pamel hordeum vocant etiamnum Picardi.’) and sub paumela notes the expression ‘pannus de paumela’.
