[ gdw]
Taken as a past participle used as an adjective, the word is derived from Latin auratus, which, in turn, provides the sense ‘gilded’. It is, however also possible to interpret the word as a development from the Latin adjective aureus, in which case the sense is more likely to be ‘golden’. The current AND definition offers both possibilities, as the contexts provided do not always make it possible to differentiate the two senses.
Furthermore, the form orié may also be interpreted as orie, i.e. a variant of the adjective oire.
