notis (1310-11)

[ gdw]

[ FEW: ; Gdf: ; GdfC: ; TL: ; DEAF: ; DMF: ; TLF: ; OED:  notice v.; MED:  notisen v.; DMLBS: ]
notice

The word could be interpreted as a p.p. used as a. of an -ir variant of noter1, but there are two arguments against that: 1) no attestations of noter with an -ir ending have been found; and 2) the form notice can hardly be interpreted as a p.p. of that verb.

The equivalent is not found in Continental French, English or Latin.
