terrobole
Greek (?)

The word may derive from the ancient Greek adjective πυροβόλος, 'that throws fire', and result from a misreading of Greek charaters. The original word may have been problematic for medieval scribes, as testified by the large array of spelling variations (Terrobole, Terobolem, Terrobuli, Cœrobolim etc. (See note in Best1 p.145).
