terinote (s.xiii1)

[gdw]

[FEW: ; Gdf: ; GdfC: ; TL: ; DEAF:  cermete; DMF: ; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: ]

In continental versions of the text, the word appears appears as ciermete/cermete. The only cognate dictionary to include this term is the DEAFpré, which glosses it as ‘termite’. While formally possible, the word is otherwise not attested in English and Continental French before the 18th century (OED termite n. and TLF termite), which makes this interpretation unlikely.
