Note the cognate development of the phrases herbe aux flèches in Continental French and arrowroot in English. No direct cognate can be found in Latin though sagittarius DMLBS 2899a is identified as 'arrow-head (Sagittaria sagittifolia)' and sagittula DMLBS 2899c is used for 'an unidentified plant, possibly agrimony (Agrimonia eupatoria) or houseleek (Sempervivum tectorum).
