Hunt notes in TLL i 25,n.57, "The first French gloss is astonishingly early, FEW 1,385b (bitriscus) giving only modern examples (rebetre, reblette)." The earliest attestation of the word cited in the FEW is taken from Cotgrave (1611). However, the DMF records the word from 1350.
