According to the DMLBS the word is a rendering of Welsh priodawr, derived from Latin proprietarius. See Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru/A Dictionary of the Welsh Language priod (which, incidentally, suggests Latin privatus as the etymon) as well as priodor. The original document is part of the Court Rolls of Denbigh (Wales).
