The editor of Port Bks notes that the manuscript clearly reads preves, but suggest that this may be a scribal error for prenes (12.n2). He suggests ‘pin, brooch’ as a definition (from New Engl. Dict.), but the OED and MED also include the sense ‘nail, spike’ – a commodity which was perhaps more likely to be transported in bushels?
