[ gdw]

[ FEW: 9,109b podagra; Gdf: ; GdfC: 10,361c poacre /10,362c podagre 1 /10,362c podagre 2; TL: 7,1239 pöacre; DEAF:  poacre; DMF:  podagre / pouacre; TLF:  podagre 1 / podagre 2 / pouacre; OED:  podagra n. / podagre n. / podagre a. and n.2; MED:  podagra n. / podagre n. / podagre a.; DMLBS: 2328b podager /2328c podagra ]
poagra,  poagre;  podacre,  podagre;  potagre;  pouacre

The editor of A-N Med accentuates the final syllable of the word when it refers to the person suffering from the disease (poagré) or when it is used adjectivally (podagré). The FEW confirms this is etymologically unnecessary, and the accented form, absent from the cognate dictionaries, is therefore not included in the AND. The separate etymologies for the disease – podagra – and the related adjective (and when used substantively, the person suffering from the disease) – podager – can no longer formally be distinguished in Anglo-Norman, and are therefore treated under one entry. The usage of the word for a disease found in birds appears to be unique to Anglo-Norman.
