philosophre (s.xiii3/4)

philesophre,  philosopher  (philosofle)
FEW:  philosophus *8,387b Gdf: GdfC: TL: DEAF: DMF: TLF: OED:  philosopher n.  MED:  philosophre n.  DMLBS:

AND1 provided a tentative correction of the word to philosophie? in boz Cont 41; probably a) because of the use of the feminine gender and, b) at that point, this was the sole attestation of a word not found in Continental French. Whereas that interpretation remains possible, further attestations have since come to light which confirm the use of an -er/re suffix, which is perhaps a Middle English formation.
