pestrer2 (s.xiii)

pestrer2 (s.xiii)

FEW:  pistrire *8,603a Gdf: GdfC: TL: DEAF:  pestrir (*)  DMF: TLF: OED: MED: DMLBS:

The word is not attested elsewhere (the noun for ‘kneader’, associated with verb pestrer1 is normally pestrisseor – not attested in Anglo-Norman, but see DMF pétrisseur) and it is not impossible that its use here is a mistake for pestur (‘baker’).

s.

occupationone who kneads the dough, baker
( MS: s.xiii )  Pistores (gloss: pestrers) habent servos et servas qui pollitrudiant farinam grossam cum pollutrudio delicato et inmittunt paste fermentum, ut elevet panem in alveo  TLL i 198.33 and ii 131.33
