osmond (s.xivin)

[ gdw]

[ FEW: ; Gdf: ; GdfC: ; TL: ; DEAF: ; DMF: ; TLF: ; OED:  osmund n.1; MED:  osmund n.; DMLBS: 2063a osmundus ]
osemund,  osmund
M.E.; Scandinavian

The origin of the Old Swedish word is unclear, but might be the Old Icelandic personal name Ásmundr (Old Swedish Asmunder). The OED speculates that it may have functioned as a place-name as well, and the word perhaps referred to the location where the iron was originally produced.
