nuiturnel (s.xii1)

The form nuturnal is a cross reference to the following entry:

nuiturnel (s.xii1)

nuiternel;  nuternal;  nutrenal;  nuturnal,  nuturnel;
pl. nuternaus,  nutrenaus,  nuturnaus  (nuiterhel  Camb Ps 168.XC.5)
  FEW:  nocturnus 7,163b Gdf:  nuitrenel 5,546b GdfC: TL: nuitrenel 6,906 DEAF: DMF:  nocturnal  TLF: OED: MED: DMLBS:  nocturnus 1921c

The word nuiturnel and its synonyms nocturne, nocturnel, and nuital all represent different stages of the development of Latin nocturnus and nocturnalis into French. The exceptional substantival use does not seem to have existed in Latin or in Continental French.
