nuilus (s.xiiiin)

[ gdw]

[ FEW: 7,170a *nodiculus; Gdf: 5,510b noellos; GdfC: ; TL: 6,693 nöeillos; DEAF: ; DMF:  noeilleux; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: ]

The word’s suggested etymology (*nodiculus), in combination with its occurrence in Continental French but not in English, suggests that it is not related to the group of aphetic words found only in Anglo-Norman (and their English counterparts) nui, nuiance, nuier, and nuius derived from in odio (which would have provided an equally relevant semantic context).
