nakaire (1304-05)

The form naker2 is a cross reference to the following entry:

nakaire (1304-05)

naker
FEW:  naqqara 19,137b Gdf:  nacaire 5,461a GdfC: TL: nacaire 6,467 DEAF: DMF:  nacaire  TLF:  nacaire  OED:  naker, n.1  / naquaire, n.  MED:  naker,n.  DMLBS:  nacara 1881b

The etymological discussion provided in the relevant OED and the FEW articles (see also R. Arveiller, Addenda au FEW XIX, Tübingen: Niemeyer, 1999, pp. 418-421) suggests that nakaire may also be related to Afr. nacre (GdfC 10,189b) ‘mother-of-pearl’ though the semantic link between these words is unclear. Nacre is currently unattested in Anglo-Norman, though the entry naisel may represent a variant form.
