naisel (s.xiii1)

[ hap]

[ FEW: ; Gdf: ; GdfC: ; TL: ; DEAF: ; DMF: ; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: ]

This word is unattested elsewhere. It may be that it represents a deviant form of nacle, a known variant of Afr. nastre [GdfC 10,189b], ‘mother-of-pearl’. It is also possible that the term is related to nestre. It does not seem be a misreading for uaisel – no such diminutive of oistre is known.
