Fresaie (mod. Fr. chouette effraie) is, in modern ornithological taxonomy, the Tyto alba (barn owl). Anglo-Norman is however anything but consistent in its designations of birds and there is considerable confusion surrounding especially owls (cf. also corf1). For further discussion, see David Trotter, 'Tote manere d’oiseaus: les noms d’oiseaux en anglo-normand', Cahiers de lexicologie 103, 125-143 (pp. 138-139).
