urtice (1280-1307)

[gdw]

FEW:  urtica 14,69a Gdf: GdfC: TL: DEAF:  ortie (*)  DMF:  urtique  TLF: OED: MED: DMLBS:  urtica 3566
ortice,  urtise,  urtiz

Although the word urtice is rare, especially compared to its synonym urtie, (to the extent that its reading has been rejected in some editions, e.g. Plant Names), it is presumably simply a more Latinate form of the latter.

The variant spelling urtiz may also be interpreted as a plural form of urtie.
