Angier uses this hapax to translate Latin tripedicam, a term which is itself ambiguous, but which according to the editor of Dial Greg SATF can be interpreted as a ‘fetter for three legs of an animal’. The Anglo-Norman translation is a literal rendering of the Latin word with treis¹ as a prefix and pege (from PEDICA).
