Siler and compounds are identified in glossaries as both gallice and anglice. It glosses a variety of different plants, including withy and mint. The forms identified as English in Plant Names have been omitted from the present article; the forms are not currently included in either the MED or OED. The deviant form silhe cannot be definitively identified as variant of siler and may in fact be unrelated. The editor of Secr Waterford1 was unable to suggests a possible etymon in selinon FEW 11,416a. The editor of Waterfordbusby suggests an identification with Valeriana officinalis.
