(requiter) (c.1298)

[gdw]

[ FEW: ; Gdf: ; GdfC: ; TL: ; DEAF: ; DMF: ; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: ]

Although formally this lexeme appears to be a solitary A-N attestation of DMF requitter (‘tenir pour quitte’) or OED requit v.1 (‘to repay’), the Court Bar context does not support this sense. Assuming that the meaning of the verb as it is used in Court Bar is ‘to request’, the word is presumably a misreading of either requi[r]er (cf. requere) or requi[s]ter (cf. requester). Cf. the form requeite, with a similar loss of the sibilant, sub requeste1.
