regreilli (s.xiii3/4)

[gdw]

[ FEW: 2/ii,1288b craticula /*4,201b gracilis; Gdf: 6,747c regreillié; GdfC: 10,525c regriller; TL: 8,634 regrëillié; DEAF: G1195 graïlle (*regraislir); DMF:  regriller; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: ]

The FEW proposes a link with craticula (‘grill, grate’), probably in accordance with Godefroy’s definition ‘grillé, desséché’, and Tobler-Lommatzsch’s ‘ausgetrocknet, eingeschrumpft (v. alten Menschen)’. The DEAF suggests an alternative etymon with gracilis (‘slender, thin’), and defines the verb as ‘devenir plus mince’. However, this latter interpretation does not seem applicable to the sole Anglo-Norman attesttation.
