The Latin noun, rabula (also rabulus or rabulum) is defined in DMLBS as ‘speaker who rants or shouts’ or ‘hawker, peddler’. The Anglo-Norman word appears only as this gloss to a Latin term without further context (in John of Garland’s Unus Omnium), and remains obscure in its etymology and sense.
