pépol (s.xiii1)

[ gdw]

[ FEW: 9,529a *pullipes; Gdf: ; GdfC: ; TL: 7,918 piepol; DEAF:  piepol; DMF:  piepol; TLF:  piepol; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: 2251c pes (pes pulli) ]
pépoyl,  piépol

Rather than a contracted form of pé de polein (see sub 1), this lexeme represents Latin pes pulli (lit. ‘foot of a young animal’). However, as plant-names, pépol and pé de polein are largely synonymous and reflect the same botanical ambiguity already present in Latin pes pulli.
