[ gdw]

[ FEW: 9,161a ponere; Gdf: ; GdfC: ; TL: ; DEAF: ; DMF: ; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: 2342a ponere ]

This rare verb is ultimately a Latinism, a calque of ponere, appearing in texts that may have a Latin source or that have a semi-Latinate context. Latin ponere, as an etymon, normally produced the verbs poser (derived from the p.p. form) and pondre1 (‘to lay (eggs)’) in Anglo-Norman.
