paundre (c.1290)

[ hap]

[ FEW: ; Gdf: ; GdfC: ; TL: ; DEAF:  paunde; DMF: ; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: ]

W. Rothwell notes in the edition for Femina2, ‘The scribe’s ‘swymmeþ’ is incorrect. Bibb Roth G v.729 glosses paunde as ‘flakerers’, C f.10rb as ‘bat’ (i.e. beats, flaps). The verb may be a form of paumoier (Godefroy 6.47c-48b).’ The ME gloss in Bibb Roth G should read ‘flakeres’ unless it is in fact glossing ‘eyles’. The DEAF glosses this word as ‘action de nager’ and suggests that the FEW lists this in their volume of ‘Inconnus’ but no such term has been found.
