noisance1 (c.1170)

FEW:  nausea 7,56b Gdf:  noisance 1 5,516c GdfC: TL: noisance 6,727 DEAF: DMF: TLF: OED: MED: DMLBS:

The word is unique to this attestation (also in Gdf and TL), and may have been constructed to provide a rhyme. For other derivational forms of noise1 unique to Horn, see noisee and noisif1. It is not impossible to interpret the word as a variant spelling of nuisance, but an association with noise1 seems likely.

s.

soundnoise, disturbance
( c.1170; MS: s.xiiiex )  [...] Cum vus porrez oir, si ne faites noisance  Horn 1322
