the word is interpreted as '(?) a kind of steel' by the editor of Lapid, and that sense is corroborated by the FEW and Godefroy (albeit on the basis of a different attestation). However, given the context, the word seems to be used as a term for shattered diamond pieces used for cutting precious stones (with no reference to any metallurgic process).
