afiçail (1150-70)

[ FEW: 3,508b *figicare; Gdf: 1,138a afichail; GdfC: ; TL: 1,183 afichal; DEAF:  fichier (afichail); DMF:  affichal; TLF: ; OED: ; MED: ; DMLBS: 48b afficha ]
afiçal;  affiçail;  efiçail,  effiçail

The sense 'hairpin', suggested by the second gloss erpin, is unexpected and does not seem applicable to the Latin context (TLL i 183.66). Furthermore, according to the OED the English word hairpin n. is not attested before the nineteenth century, suggesting that the gloss erpin may not be interpreted correctly.
